The Story of Ferdinand, by Munro Leaf

Ferdinand is not an ordinary bull. He is different. People try to get him to change, to be fierce like other bulls, but he just wants to sit peacefully and smell the flowers. And his mother is ok with that. I'm old now, but I have loved "Ferdinand" since second grade, when I first read about him sitting in the middle of the bullring, inhaling the aroma of the ladies' flowers, doing something so much better that what he was supposed to be doing.
